Meet Erin

I was born and raised in Sylmar, CA, what once was a rural bedroom community on the northern fringes of the San Fernando valley. During my childhood Sylmar was very much like Hesperia is now. It was a farming/ranching area that saw massive development begin in the 1940’s. By my time there the area was struggling with many of the same issues we have in Hesperia today. Being a town within the City of Los Angeles, Sylmar was swallowed by the municipality and eventually just became an extension of that city, albeit with a few horses. I do not want to see that happen to Hesperia.

After a 15-year career with Mattel Toys spending my working days in cities all over the world, I longed for the rural life of my childhood. Somewhere a little slower where I could raise my children with less worry. My husband and I settled on Hesperia. It was affordable and we both loved the desert environment.

My family moved here in 2005. I was able to stay home with my children until they were both in school full time. At that point I was hired as an Office Assistant with the City of Hesperia. I continued to work for the City for 18 years in a variety of positions. I retired in March of 2025 from my position as the Assistant City Clerk. Having worked in various departments during that tenure, I learned a lot about the day-to-day functions of the City, its ongoing struggles, and the sometimes complicated development process. At the time I had no idea I was studying to serve my community later.

In my 20 years here in Hesperia I have put down deep roots. I live on a street of about 20 houses and have made close friends with at least 10 of them. We have BBQ’s, a regular “Wine Wednesday” and have block parties on the 4th of July and Halloween. I have been involved in my kids' schools, parent service groups, and various sports entities that they participated in. I believe wholly in giving back to mechanisms that I benefit from. I pay taxes, and the City is bound to provide services to me because of that, but I benefit in many intangible ways as a resident. It is my responsibility as a member of this community to help maintain continuity of this lifestyle I love for future generations. I know that sounds corny, but the words are from my heart.
